It's an Everyone's Fight!
A writer might compare his life to a book, a runner would say his life is like a marathon, and Alexey Tishchenko, double Olympic champion in boxing, says: “My life is a fight! I already won the first round”. Indeed, that couldn't be more true: among Alexey's achievements are two gold medals at the Olympics, worldwide recognition, four years of hard work as deputy of the Legislative Assembly of Omsk Oblast. Now, when sport battles are over, the Olympic champion is starting the second round. In January 2012 Alexey decided to stand for the post of deputy of Omsk City Council for constituency No.6.
Many people might wonder what motivates the professional athlete, vice-principal of the Olympic Boxing Training Center to engage in politics. When in November 2007 Alexey was offered a deputy position at the Legislative Assembly of Omsk Oblast, he never viewed it as a prestigious social entourage, another award to recognize his Olympic victories. He approached it as another fight, which requires willpower, composure and thorough preparation. Tishchenko's unique personal and athletic experience, his energy and determination quickly produced considerable results. Over the 4 years that Alexey worked as deputy of Legislative Assembly, more than 500 residents of Omsk and Omsk Oblast addressed him with their requests, and most of them received help. People bring forth their grief, pain and tears, hoping for real help, not some fine words or papers.
“It's really interesting for me to be engaged in politics, I really like to help people – Alexey Tishchenko says frankly. - It is also a way of self-actualization, but on a totally different social level. Omsk is my city, the city where my children will live, and I want to make it better. What's the use of empty talks and complains? Let's start building and improving our life ourselves. When we learn to accept responsibility for what surrounds us, we will make a step towards the creation of civil society.” Alexey plans, taking into account the capabilities of the city's infrastructure, to increase the number of sports grounds, gyms, swimming pools. Making sports accessible for everyone, children's development, healthy lifestyle are among Alexey's priorities. For Alexey these issues go hand in hand. “Sport is one of the most powerful methods of raising and educating children”, - the boxer says. A sports ground in the yard can change a person's life for the better, the history of sports knows many such cases! Thanks to Alexey Tishchenko's efforts, plans were made to build a Boxing Palace and several other athletic facilities in Omsk. However, implementing these plans requires patience and hard work. “Aside from experience and knowledge, what every politician needs is a high level of responsibility, determination, the desire to work and to help people, - Alexey says. - I say: let's solve our issues together, make our lives better together, build civil society, set great goals and achieve them. I suggest we fight together. It's an everyone's fight!”
